They set off on the Wensleydale Railway and not too long later were in Tokyo where they experienced Japanese Culture first-hand. They visited the Sky-tree, Shibuya crossing, ate traditional Japanese food, travelled on the Metro and Harvey even had a go at Sumo Wrestling.

They travelled to the Jamboree site at Kiara-Hama by Shikansen Bullet Train.

The Jamboree lasted ten days and was attended by over 30000 Scouts from over 200 different countries. Their campsite was next to Japanese, American, FinIMG_0045ish and Austrian Scouts to name but a few nationalities. They shared experiences with their Scouting brothers including lots of adventurous activities, educational activities on global and peace themes, they learnt about different religions and cultures.

As part of the experience they visited the Hiroshima memorial and took part in a service to mark the 70th anniversary of the bombing of the City.

IMG_0042After the Jamboree they visited Naruto Scout District where they stayed for several days with the local Scouts. They visited local schools, festivals and the Tokoshima Castle Museum where they were able to try on traditional Japanese costumes.

They have had a wonderful experience and have lots of stories to tell the other young people in the Group.

They’ll be visiting the sections to share their photos, videos and show them some of the wonderful souvenirs they’ve collected on their travels.
