Scouting is all about having fun, making friends, learning new skills and the adventure of trying exciting outdoor activities!

Scouts are boy and girls aged 10 to 14 years old and meet together as a Scout Troop. Each Scout Troop consists of a number of small units of six to eight Scouts called Patrols, usually led by a Patrol Leader. Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp. There is also a large range of activity badges for the Scouts to gain including, street sports, digital citizen, geocaching, rock climbing, potholing, gliding and photography. There is also lots of opportunities to go on international experiences.

What’s involved?

This is an exciting role involves working with a small leadership team to enable the delivery of an exciting programme for the section members, with many outdoor opportunities. You will not only benefit from supporting young people, but also from gaining new skills and developing yourself. All of which apply to your everyday working life.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need to know anything about scouting to get involved – but you do need enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved help provide great programmes to the young people in the section.

Flexible volunteering
The only prerequisite to volunteer with us – apart from enthusiasm, of course – is that you’re over 18. We know our volunteers lead busy lives, so we’re all about flexibility: whatever the time and skills available we can find a great role for you.

You can choose to volunteer with us once a week, twice a month or once a year – in the thick of activities with young people or behind the scenes in management, executive or support roles.
